All to often we are bombarded by the idea or the notion that we have to be successful in life and as a human to hold value. To hold social currency. So from early age we are programmed by messaging that tells us to equate our personal worth by the level of success we achieve. This method needs to be externally validated & its done through ribbons at junior sports events, certificates on speech night, ATAR scores in schooling and how close to 7 you get in Uni.

Like it or loathe it, this is the way society is structured and it is only the very few who are resilient enough to actively step outside this frame work to live off the grid and away from the societal norms, so, for the rest of us we are left with the biggest questions of our lives – “How do I become successful?”.

Billons with a B are spent in the pursuit of the biggest challenge we all personally face. If you look strategically enough when on social media you’ll soon start realizing that the insta glam and the posing is all to portray a picture of success. To “win over” those that don’t yet know us & to convince random strangers that “we’ve got what it takes and we made it”.

What if I told you that you don’t need to go on a retreat or buy another online course on the 75 steps on how to be successful. What if I told you here, in this article that you stumbled on & didn’t pay a cent for, the only 3 things you need to be successful? No bright lights, no prime time news coverage and no fan fare. (You want to know why I get none of those for this absolute life changing piece? Because it’s not monetizable. It’s not “sexy and mystical”.) I’m not going to ask you to learn the 17 steps of the secret process that I used to make a zillion dollars. I am simply going to share with you the 3 things that guarantee success. (And yes, there are 3 things, because in isolation it wouldn’t guarantee success, but it may cause you to get lucky and fluke success).



1. Show Up 2. Pay the price it takes 3. Rinse & Repeat  - that’s – SHOW – PAY - REPEAT
If this were the Olympic games then you should insert the trumpet music to play in your brain when you read over those 3 points. (Go on, read over them again. Move your eyes back up to that line and read over it with the music playing) because that is how momentous that 1 line could be in your life, if you decide to really focus on it.

Now I could expand on the Secret to Success & make it a 7 point or an 11 point. I could drill down and pad it out and make sure that even the most challenged amongst us would get it. Im not going to, because simplicity is the key here.

1) Show UP – you can’t start or do anything without actually showing up. Turn up. Be there. Arrive. Whatever you want to call it. We are programmed these days to look for reasons to opt out of things. You have to Show Up to your task of building success ever single day. Ready for work with the right attitude to do your best & give it your all.

The secret as a human is to also engage with other humans to help you along the way. Showing up for yourself to your own success building can and should also include showing up to external things that will help you on your success journey.  ‘Invitation to a chamber breakfast to listen to an interesting business person share some of their goodness:- “oh, um too early, can’t make it”’. STOP OPTING OUT and Show Up to the things that you feel you need to be at. The other thing to consider around the Show Up is have an idea on Why you are showing up. You don’t have to have a detailed 8 point plan of why, but you have to know why you would want to go to a breakfast meeting, a coffee meeting or a weekend conference.

2) Pay the PRICE it takes – If you are only thinking about money here then you’ve missed half the point. The PRICE is not money. It’s the time. It’s the sacrifice it’s going to take. That is the price of success. (This is great news if you are living in a cardboard box in a park sucking on a tea bag for sustenance and no one to hug you when you get home. Success doesn’t give a shit about how down on your luck you are or how shitty your home environment is. Success only cares about Who is willing to pay the price to reach it.) Money is not the hard bit. Trust me people that have money, don’t know what to do with it and are looking for people who are building success, you can find money when you need it.

The price is the missed parties with friends, the missed casual coffees with loved ones. The price is some sleep that is traded for an extra few hours of payment that is needed to crack on with the current project at hand. The price is missing the Netflix movie with your partner in bed, whilst you are paying the price at the laptop further progressing your idea or thing close to success.
3) Rinse & Repeat – If you think about what the key in social media marketing is, its AB split testing. It’s working out what works and what doesn’t. So, once you start paying your price for the success that you are gong to achieve, regularly assess what it is you have done that day, week, month & ensure you REPEAT the things that got you closer to success and eliminate the things that took you further away it. By rinsing off or washing away the things that didn’t work (picture you are hosing it out in the kitchen sink, sending all the not helpful gunk down into the drain hole) you will free up time and also identify the habits and things that worked, so that you can do more of that.

Like I said up above. The only 3 steps you need to be successful are not sexy. But that should give you the confidence to embrace them. You see its often the mundane and repetitive things in life that are actually the keys to performance, relationship positives and goals. Success.

Now it is important to note here that you can’t FAST FORWARD or magic your way through the points any quicker. You can’t skip a step or LEVEL UP or PIVOT somehow to magnify the result. The only thing you can do, is Repeat the steps over and over and over until you hit your success.

Now just a quick footnote for the sceptics or indeed the people who sell the 75 points to success courses. I can hear you all objecting into your lattes as you read this. “Yes but you have to have a strategic goal, a business plan, you have to know what you are pursuing.” “You need a coach, you need financial viability”. “You have to test the market”. You’re all correct in what you are screaming in your minds right now. But the actual fact of the success journey is that if you just focus on these 3 things as your anchor as your point of reference and structural frame work then you will indeed end up seeking out and embracing all of the things that are peddled at courses and spoken about because they form fantastic frame work to affix to your master success structure.

Show Up. Pay the Price. Rinse & Repeat. We can all do it. It doesn’t discriminate & it’s there for anyone who wants it. That’s how we know life is a beautiful thing and that we can indeed be the masters of our own future, whatever that is that we choose.
